2016 Masters Champ, aka Danny Win-ett

Wow, what an epic collapse! No I’m not talking about Young Jordan Spieth’s struggles around Amen Corner yesterday, I’m talking about Ron Johnson’s selection of Phil Mickelson for his team last week. As the old adage goes, “most bets are won or lost before the first tee shot” and that was never more evident than in the 2016 Not-the-Fake Masters Pool where RJ’s Mickelson pick cost him the championship. He could have picked Chris Wood, mistaking him for the other Wood(s) and ran away with victory. He could have picked Larry Mize for old times sake.  He even could have picked Jimmy (not JJ) Walker for his love of 70’s sitcoms and still walked away with the top prize, but nope, he had to pick Phil-ly Cheesesteak Mickelson and because of that monumental error in judgement, NtFMP newcomer Abe Deffenbaugh Walsh was able to sneak in and steal the trophy. In reality, most of the credit should go to Abe’s selection of Henrik Stenson who followed up a woeful 78 in the 3rd round with a final round 69 and in the process moved up 19 spots to secure the victory for Team ADW. Congrats to Abe and to Ron for claiming the top two spots this year.  The NtFMP is typically not kind on rookies but Abraham Deffenbaugh Walsh proved that you can overcome any obstacle if you have enough letters in your name. Job especially well done Abe!

The standings are below. Please check and double-check your teams totals and if you haven’t done so, please mail your $5. Thank you all for playing and until next year keep this quote top of mind –

“As you walk down the fairway of life, you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round.” – Ben Hogan
